Overall appearance: Abigail is about 165-170 cm. doesn’t look of much, which is the result of a slim built, and because she is very close to being thin, it only makes it worse. She wants to be the sword of justice, and fights hard to do what is right. She fears that if she doesn’t do so, she will end up like her parents. A mortifying fear she feels every day, and especially when she feels like she have done something wrong(Even if she didn’t do anything wrong). This constant fear makes her fight even harder to do her best, and often makes her pull all-nighters at work.
She have very little self-esteem, but tried to smile her way through it. Though she need help, she denies the fact, and lulls herself into the believe that she will be okay. On top of that she has so many emotions locked inside her that she easily responds to whatever emotion she feels. Like she suddenly hugs someone because she feels happy, or feel beat down by something slightly mean someone said. But as before said she will try taking it with a smile and convince herself that she will be okay.
Family: Dad in prison, mother in the hospital in a coma.
Background:
Like most where she came from her background is not a happy one. She grew up in the slum of Gotham, and was surrounded by criminals. Both her parents where criminals, and didn’t seem to have any hard time dealing with the fact, that they were hurting people. Her father though the worst of toughs two. He was in one of the bigger and more violently gangs. Blackmailing, selling drugs, beating up people, stealing and whatever else that needed to be done. And since he grew up in a family of criminals as well, all hopes for anything good in him died years ago.
He had a violent nature, and did not think twice before showing it. If something didn’t please him, he would beat someone to feel better. If someone opposed him he would beat them up. And at times he would beat people up just because he felt like it. Not even his wife or child was sacred, no fare from. They were probably toughs that felt his violent and none caring nature the most. Her mother’s desperate pleading for forgiveness could often be heard, with a background music of things being bashed around and glass breaking. After having beaten her up with no remorse, he would often drag her to the bed, and continue the violence there. At some point it wasn’t enough with just the mother, and he turned to Abigail/Ann-Beth.
At the age of 8 her father started to look at her in another way. With his lacking sense of right and wrong, he threw himself at his daughter, starting a long and unpleasant abuse that would leave more than just physical scars. As if that wasn’t enough he found great pleasure in selling her off to his friends and strangers. Sometimes just giving her away for the fun of seeing her cry, and she would always cry. No matter how many times she was being raped, she always begged them to stop, hoping that they would listen. Her mother looked the other way, and did not try to help her. Instead she spend a numerous days on trying to do what any normal mother would do.
Though her mother would not (or could not) her, she tried as often as possible to be motherly. She helped her with the little homework she had, taking her to different places, buying her cloth and making food or bake with her. But the only real relief she had was the time at the schools rundown library. The place she used the most time in, just studying ‘till her brain felt like it would exploded. Because she had already decided to become a cop at that time, so she could fight crimes. The dream did at the time already seem like an impossibility, because of the schools didn’t really teach their student anything that would be of use, except reading and writing. But that didn’t stop her from trying with all she could.
In class she was the bright kid, smarter than the rest of them, but not the most popular. In reality she was hated by all the other kids, and had no friends. Every attempt to get some, would fail almost immediately. And in the end she would just end up in being bullied even more than before. She was an outcast, and would never fit in because of her sweet nature, and ever smiling face. She was doomed to be teacher’s pet, and the laughing stock of everyone else.
One day enough was enough. Abigail/Ann-Beth’s mother finally came to some sort of sense, and called the police while her father was having “fun” with Ann-Beth. But for that she had to pay a price. After the police came and took Ann-Beth’s father away, things got worse…
Some of the other gang members became thirsty for revenge, and not long after Ann-Beth’s father was put to jail, her mother was attacked and beaten up. It was clear when she found her mother that she was not supposed to survive. But she did. Her condition was critical and she only survived by a stroke of luck. But the result of the beaten was that she ended up in a coma, of which she would only come out of if she was treated. The treatment was expensive but she became determined to get the money. But firstly she would have to make sure, that her mother stayed in the hospital. So she took on a job without giving up her studies.
She managed to get though school, (which was no surprise to anyone) and moved to her own new apartment. She changed her name, to conceal her path, and erased all traces of her past, that would link her to it.
Soon after she applied to the police academy and started training. As determined as ever, she studied as hard as possible, still managing to keep working, and paying of the hospital fee. She kept the title of being best in class, but she was still an outsider. So she continued being lonesome. Her solution for her loneliness was getting a cat, which she treasured and cared for all she could. Her cat Newton became her one and only friend and the one she used for cheering herself up with, when ever her work, study and social life failed.
